Safeguarding
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Transparent standards for every participant's safety and wellbeing.
Model Peace Summit is committed to the highest standards of safeguarding and wellbeing. All events follow clear policies and procedures, and host institutions must meet our safeguarding requirements. This page outlines our approach in six areas.
Policy
Safeguarding Policy
We have a clear safeguarding policy that all host institutions must adopt or align with. It covers the welfare of children and young people, recruitment and training of staff and volunteers, and procedures for reporting and responding to concerns. Full policy documents are available to host partners and can be requested via safeguarding@modelpeacesummit.org.
Conduct
Code of Conduct
All participants, including students, educators and facilitators, are expected to adhere to a code of conduct. This includes respectful behaviour, no discrimination or harassment, and compliance with event rules. Breaches are taken seriously and may result in exclusion and referral as appropriate.
Inclusion
Equal Opportunities & Inclusion
MPS is committed to equal opportunities and inclusion. We aim to ensure that summits are accessible and welcoming regardless of background, identity or need. Hosts are expected to make reasonable adjustments and to promote an inclusive environment where every voice can be heard.
Reporting
Student Voice & Reporting
Students must have clear, safe routes to report concerns—about behaviour, safety or wellbeing—without fear of repercussion. We expect hosts to provide designated contacts and to ensure that student voice is taken seriously and acted upon in line with our safeguarding procedures.
Digital
Digital & Media Protection
We set expectations for the use of digital devices, photography, video and social media at events. Participants' privacy and consent are prioritised. Hosts must communicate and enforce these expectations so that all attendees, especially minors, are protected online and in media.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing Framework
Beyond physical safety, we promote the emotional and psychological wellbeing of participants. Our wellbeing framework includes rest breaks, access to quiet spaces, and awareness of the demands of intensive dialogue and negotiation. Hosts are encouraged to embed wellbeing practices throughout the programme.
